Love from Another Weekly... Publishers

Yes, Publishers Weekly gave the book a starred review (that's a pretty big deal). The review is a pretty interesting, different take (especially on Sylvia's role in the story).

Free Preview of Whole Comic Con Chapter from MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE

Call it largesse (go on, I dare you), but here’s the entire comic con chapter from my forthcoming Image Comics collection MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE, just to whet (or re-whet) your appetite. 20 pages out of the whopping 384 the book has. Read it, then order it from Amazon or at your local comic book shop. If they don’t have it, demand they order it!

MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE SIGNING EVENT @ FORBIDDEN PLANET!

Yessiree, I'll be signing Maximum Minimum Wage at Forbidden Planet, which is practically my alma mater. I've been shopping there since the opening day back in '81. Oh god! That's a long time ago. But of all its incarnations, this newest is the prettiest and I'm psyched to be having my first FP signing therein! It's spacious, attractive and welcoming to all (even non-nerds). Come on down and get the book (which will be generously discounted for the event, too!)

Also on deck will be some of the guest artists who contributed all-new pinups to the book.

Plus, debuting their new Image title, Five Ghosts, will be writer Frank Barbiere and artist Chris Mooneyham.

Come on down. Or up. Just be there!

Maximum Minimum Wage Campaign Spot

Video I made to promote the book, namely a political campaign-style spot for my snazzy new hardcover collection MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE. Features ace comic cover artist Dave Johnson, Mystery Science Theater 3000's Frank Conniff, the lovely Margaret Cho and the likewise lovely actor/voiceover god Phil LaMarr.

Oh, It's BIG!

Yes indeed, today Mr. FedEx delivered into my sweaty little paws (perhaps a tad sweatier than usual, as I still have the dregs of the flu) an advance copy of the book. Sweet Mary, it looks great. I am hypercritical and I can safely say this is a high-quality product. Good paper, nice cover treatments, bound-in cloth bookmark, sharp printing, the works. It really is what I hoped it would be.

Oh, and did I mention IT'S BIG?

KIRKMAN, AHOY!

Comics superstar Robert Kirkman, the man behind The Walking Dead, Invincible, Super Dinosaur, and perhaps his best-loved and biggest hit, Battle Pope, has just delivered his foreword for MMW. I couldn't be happier with it. It blew me away. Robert and I have known each other a long time and it's incredibly flattering (and edifying) that his role has gone from burgeoning comics writer that used to send me fan mail, to publisher of this new edition (of the to book to which he used to send that fan mail). That my work, in any way, played a part in that trajectory is something of which I am mighty proud. He's a good dude. And he writes a helluva foreword.

Post Numero Uno

For my longtime audience — that seems a humbler word than "fans" — the news that a big (literally) super-deluxe edition of my seminal comics work, Minimum Wage, is soon to be released should be very good news. This really will be THE edition to have. It's been reworked (I toyed with subtitling it The OCD Edition because I just can't help myself), will boast a very impressive guest "pinup" gallery (quotes because does anyone actually clip these out and pin them up? Not with a big hardcover, I don't imagine), a full-color section featuring all the original covers, sketchbook stuff and more.

And as I said, it's big. MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE is a whopping 9" X 12", finally giving the art some room to breathe. And the dialogue won't be eyestrainingly tiny. I'm excited! I'm also psyched to be working with Image Comics for the first time. Robert Kirkman, who used to send me fan mail back when he was just starting out (sending me issues of Battle Pope) is the man behind this new edition, which is flattering and cool. He also contributed an awesome, humbling, foreword.

I'll be using this blog to supplement the supplements, posting additional sketch stuff and thumbnails and all that. I'll also be offering some exclusive content come release time of the book, so stay tuned.
